Alex Stepney, a patron of Manchester United was born in Mitcham, Surrey in September 1942, Alex was signed for £55,000 - then a world record fee for a 'keeper- from Chelsea, in the 1966/67 campaign, which was to end with the Championship pennant flying at Old Trafford. Rated as one of England's leading 'keepers, his assurance in the United halls of immortality came in one heart-stopping moment at Wembley in 1968, in the European Cup Final.
